Kristy Performing

"My life is loosely based on a rough sketch that's been partly erased.
My tracks are easy to trace
-signs of panic and wreckage all over the place."

- from "Under Control"

Kristy making early business callsKristy began performing at age eleven with Bo Diddley and his entourage in her native New Mexico. Her grandmother, a horsetrader, struck up a unlikely friendship with the rock legend who moved into a ranch behind her property. Kristy became riding buddies with Bo's two daughters, and eventually was drafted into family band the "Diddley Darlings", as "lead tambourine-ist". Her eleven-year-old eyes were opened wide as she came into contact with the wild road musicians Bo had living on the ranch with him. She loved spending time at the Diddley's with their extended family, and their big collection of animals. There was always an adventure to be had, be it performing a concert for the local prison, slaughtering a sheep, making a TV appearance, meeting visiting luminaries such as Keith Richards or Chuck Berry, or surreptitiously starting a gasoline fire in the sand pile with Bo's daughter Tammy. But eventually the famous family moved on, and things faded to normal. As a teen, Kristy briefly studied guitar and piano, but would not seriously turn to music until her early twenties when she returned from a solo trip to Europe with a notion to play the guitar. She moved into a little trailer behind her grandmother's house and began taking guitar lessons and writing songs.

MeandGitarKristy moved to Los Angeles to attend Dick Grove School of Music in the 80s. She moved to spend the 90s in Seattle and Portland, Oregon. She lead several successful bands on the west coast and lent her talents to numerous studio projects as vocalist and guitarist. Co-founding latin/Brazilian/salsa venture Via Brasil with Chilean percussionist Luis Opazo, they became a popular festival band throughout Oregon and released a self-titled recording in 1994. In spring of '97 she released the critically acclaimed CD entitled "Into the Fray" and began pursuing a career as a solo artist. More recently she has returned to her native New Mexico to raise her daughter and works as a graphic designer by day. headshot
